This page compiles quarterly AI app download data, drawing on Sensor Tower and Appfigures estimates as reported by Forbes and others, plus SimilarWeb web-traffic context for comparison.
The AI Behavior Index is the research arm of OneChat AI, an integrated multi-model AI platform. We compile and analyze data from primary research sources to make AI adoption and market trends more accessible to journalists, researchers, and decision-makers.
Why download rankings need careful interpretation: download estimates come from third-party analytics firms (Sensor Tower, Appfigures) that model installs from sampled data — they’re directional, not official app-store counts. More importantly, downloads measure acquisition (new installs), not engagement (active use) or revenue, so a download ranking can diverge sharply from who actually has the most users. We present download share as a momentum signal and explicitly pair it with the usage/revenue context.
Methodology notes: share-of-download figures are computed across a defined set of leading AI apps (Sensor Tower used six), so they’re sensitive to which apps are included. Quarterly comparisons (e.g. Q2 2025 vs Q2 2026) can be affected by launch timing and one-off virality. Download counts are third-party estimates with inherent modeling error. Download share falling while absolute downloads rise is common in a growing market — we flag this explicitly to avoid the “ChatGPT is shrinking” misread. Web-traffic and revenue figures come from separate sources and aren’t directly comparable to downloads.
