About this data

Statistics on this page are compiled from publicly available studies. Where multiple sources report on the same metric, we cite the most authoritative source available — typically central bank research, academic working papers, or annual industry surveys with disclosed methodology — and note any methodological caveats.

The Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis revised its August 2024 figures upward in August 2025 after identifying question-sequencing effects in the original survey instrument.
