AI Revenue Growth: Total Market Size by Year

Worldwide AI spending hit $1.5 trillion in 2025 per Gartner — up from approximately $95 billion in 2022, the year ChatGPT launched. The category that did not meaningfully exist three years ago is now larger than the global pharmaceutical industry. This page tracks four lenses on AI market size: total worldwide AI spending (Gartner), the trajectory of the top two model labs (OpenAI and Anthropic), AI semiconductor revenue (Gartner chip forecasts), and the generative-AI segment specifically.

About this data

The AI Behavior Index is the research arm of OneChat AI. This page combines four lenses on AI market size: total worldwide spending (Gartner's broadest definition), the top model labs by annualized revenue (OpenAI and Anthropic), AI semiconductors (Gartner's chip forecast), and category breakdown.

Two important methodological caveats: First, market sizing varies significantly by methodology. Gartner's "total AI spending" ($1.5T in 2025) is broader than Statista's "AI market" ($244B in 2025) because Gartner includes IT services, infrastructure, and embedded AI in non-pure-AI products. Different sources are not directly comparable; this page uses Gartner consistently for the top-line view. Second, Anthropic reports revenue on a gross basis (including cloud reseller pass-through), which inflates the top line relative to OpenAI's reporting practice. The direct comparison in Chart 2 should be interpreted with that caveat — the growth velocity is comparable, but absolute levels are not perfectly apples-to-apples.
