AI Adoption in 2026: Saturation Approaching?

Through the first half of 2026, AI adoption has produced a more complicated picture than the simple growth story of previous years. ChatGPT crossed one billion monthly active users in June. But the AI search market consolidated, with ChatGPT's share of B2B AI referrals falling from 89% to 63% in just eight months. US consumer adoption is approaching levels where natural ceilings typically appear. Enterprise spending continues to expand. Agentic AI is still in early innings. This page assembles the data on where the market actually is at mid-year — and presents the case both for and against the saturation thesis — drawn from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Pew Research, the Federal Reserve, Goodie, Similarweb, and Sensor Tower.

About this data

The AI Behavior Index is the research arm of OneChat AI. This page focuses specifically on the first half of calendar year 2026 — the period from January 2026 through June 2026. Statistics are drawn from publicly available studies, primary company announcements, and contemporaneous research reports.

Because the year is still in progress, this page will be substantially updated as additional data arrives. Several statistics on this page (Q2 2026 figures, OpenAI IPO filing details, market share dynamics) are based on the most current reporting available as of June 2026 and may shift as the year unfolds. Where sources use different methodologies — for example, "monthly active users" vs "weekly active users," or differences between B2B referral share and consumer market share — we note the distinction explicitly. Data is refreshed quarterly. If you have a study to suggest or notice an error, contact us at research@aibehaviorindex.org.
