ChatGPT Plus and Pro: Paid Subscriber Trends

OpenAI confirmed 50 million paying subscribers across all tiers in April 2026 — a figure most coverage understates by counting only the original $20 Plus plan. This page tracks the paid base across Plus ($20), Pro ($200), Team and Enterprise, how average revenue per user has climbed, and the striking internal projection — reported by The Information — that OpenAI expects Plus subscriptions to fall sharply in 2026 as it pushes a cheaper ad-supported tier.

About this data

This page compiles ChatGPT paid-subscriber and revenue-per-user figures from OpenAI's own statements and from reporting by The Information, TechCrunch, and industry trackers. Subscriber figures are company-reported and not independently audited.

The AI Behavior Index is the research arm of OneChat AI, an integrated multi-model AI platform. We compile and analyze data from primary sources to make AI adoption and market trends more accessible to journalists, researchers, and decision-makers.

Why subscriber counts disagree: ChatGPT has four paid SKUs — Plus ($20/mo), Pro ($200/mo), Team ($25/seat/mo), and Enterprise (custom). Many widely-cited figures (e.g. 10M) count only Plus; OpenAI's confirmed 50M (April 2026) counts all tiers. We use the all-tier figure as the headline and label tier-specific numbers explicitly.

Methodology notes: ARPU is an estimate derived from reported revenue run-rate over the paid base and should be read as approximate; per-tier economics differ sharply (Enterprise seats carry roughly 3x consumer ARPU). The 2026 Plus/Go figures are an internal OpenAI projection reported by The Information, not realized results.
