About this data
This page compiles published estimates of ChatGPT's usage in the United States relative to the rest of the world, drawing on Similarweb web-traffic data (via Momentic), First Page Sage US estimates, and country/region breakdowns from Presenc AI and DemandSage.
The AI Behavior Index is the research arm of OneChat AI, an integrated multi-model AI platform. We compile and analyze data from primary research sources to make AI adoption and market trends more accessible to journalists, researchers, and decision-makers.
Why US-share figures range from ~18% to ~38%: they measure different things. Share of total users (Presenc AI) puts the US near 31% and falling; share of web visitors (DemandSage/Similarweb) puts the US near 18.5%; web-visit share within a country (how much of that market ChatGPT holds) puts the US near 58.9%. These are not contradictory — they answer different questions, and all three point to the same trend: the US is a high-intensity but shrinking slice of a globalizing base.
Methodology notes: country and regional shares are drawn from panel-modeled traffic and usage estimates that carry error bands and are revised over time. "User" counts and "visitor" counts use different definitions across vendors, which is the main reason absolute levels differ. Regional 2024-vs-2026 points are disclosed anchors; intermediate movement is directional.
