AI for Social Media Post Writing

Writing social media posts is one of the most thoroughly AI-saturated tasks in all of marketing. By Q1 2026, 87% of marketers used generative AI in at least one recurring social workflow — up from just 51% two years earlier — and caption and post-copy writing is one of the single most common applications. The typical workflow is now AI-first but human-finished: nearly a third of teams say more than half their posts are AI-assisted, yet about four in five still edit that content moderately or extensively before it goes live. The results are encouraging from the producer side — most teams that compare see AI-assisted posts performing as well or better. But the audience tells a more cautious story: a meaningful share of consumers say they’re less likely to engage with brands that use AI-generated content, and concerns about flattened, generic brand voice are real. This page maps adoption, what AI actually writes, how much gets edited, and the producer-vs-audience gap.

About this data

This page compiles published data on AI for social media post writing, drawing on 2026 reports from Salesforce (State of Marketing), Adobe (Digital Trends, 16,000+ creators), Sociality.io’s AI-in-social-media survey, and PostEverywhere’s trends analysis.

The AI Behavior Index is the research arm of OneChat AI, an integrated multi-model AI platform. We compile and analyze data from primary research sources to make AI adoption and market trends more accessible to journalists, researchers, and decision-makers.

Why the “87% adoption” and “45.9% caption writing” figures both fit: they measure different scopes. 87% is “use GenAI in at least one recurring social workflow” (any task); 45.9% is the share specifically using AI for caption/post-copy writing. A team can be in the 87% via analytics or ideation without using AI for captions — so the caption-specific number is rightly lower. We label which scope each figure covers.

Methodology notes: figures come from marketer surveys (Salesforce, Adobe, Sociality.io) and are multiple-select for task breakdowns. The performance figures (44.7% “better”) are self-reported by teams that compared, not controlled experiments. The consumer-skepticism figures are from separate consumer surveys and describe audience attitudes, not post performance. “AI-assisted” spans light edits to full generation, so it captures a spectrum of involvement.
